Stable tours and chanko experience
What we offer
Tourists in Japan are often disappointed when they realise their trip does not coincide with one of the six main honbasho tournaments that happen in January, March, May, July, September, or November across various cities in Japan. Fortunately, for those tourists visiting Tokyo, the majority of sumo stables, or heya, are located within the cultural home of sumo in the neighbourhood of Ryogoku. Aside from short holidays, morning practice sessions happen most days of the year from 7am-10am. Our team offers intimate access inside these stables so you can watch practice sessions up close—not through a window.
How it Works
-
1. Choose a Tour
Choose morning practice viewing, or morning practice plus chanko-nabe add-on where you can eat together with wrestlers after practice ends.
-
2. Choose a Date
Choose a desired date, as well as a second option. We need to manually check with stablemasters to confirm availability, so we will ge back to you to confirm or arrange an alternative date.
-
3. Approval and Payment
Once a date has been approved, we will send you a link to pay online. We accept both credit cards and PayPal.
-
4. Read Our Etiquette Guide
Once we receive your payment, we will send you a PDF etiquette guide to thoroughly read before your visit. We want our customers and stables to be happy, so we will ask you to follow a few simple rules.
-
5. Enjoy!
As each stable has their own customs and schedules, we will be sure to let you know exactly when and where to arrive for your stable experience. Any questions? Get in touch!
